I completely agree with what David Wysong writes here:
“Carton has displayed extreme maturity and bravery. This is a kid that just graduated high school in 2019. For him to have the self-awareness to know that stepping away from the game he loves is what’s best for him and his mental health, that’s something you don’t see from a lot of people let alone someone at such a young age.”
As an Ohio State fan, though not a huge college basketball fan, I’ve seen this team go from looking like world-beaters early in the season, to pretty well flopping in Big Ten play, from a Top 5 team, to a bubble team. Losing your point guard? That hurts. But this is so much bigger. These are the kinds of things that you can’t just play through. You need help, and you need to get it sooner rather than later.
I hope DJ gets the help he needs, gets past this and has a huge career with Ohio State, and if getting him right requires stepping back now, so be it.
