If even Troy is saying it, it’s time for some change:
“Go through the list and this team, over a long period of time, has been what it’s been,” Aikman said Tuesday on 1310 The Ticket. “It hasn’t always mattered who the head coach has been. So to me, if you’re asking me, I’d say there has to be a complete overhaul of the entire organization.”
I do disagree with him on the status of Jason Garrett. At this point, I just haven’t seen anything from Garrett that shows me he’s capable of winning a Super Bowl. He should go.
But Jerry should find an actual GM too. This roster is kind of a mess. Letting Dez go when you didn’t have a replacement to be your lead receiver was a horrible decision. I’m not saying Dez hasn’t been declining, but by not replacing him, the offensive match ups all got moved up one, and aren’t good. (God love Cole Beasley as a slot receiver, but you can’t line him up across the best corners in the league on the outside.) Amari Cooper will alleviate some of that, but now there’s no first round pick next year.
Last night’s game was a microcosm of everything that’s wrong, and the personnel decisions that led to it.
- A missed FG early
- A bad, bad, bad, horrible turnover in the red zone. (I’m still not sure what Dak was doing with that throw. It looked like a panic move to get rid of the ball, but it only went to the back of the end zone and was easily picked. It could have been a misread between him and Cooper. Whatever it was, Cooper wasn’t open, and the ball didn’t get out of play. Ugh.
- Complete inability to pass protect on third down.
- Inability to get off the field on third and long on defense.
These have been issues all season. It’s not getting better. Dak Prescott is not getting better. The offensive line is a shadow of it’s former self. The defensive secondary is questionable, at best.
We could say the same thing at the end of last season. That’s bad management.
