Funny story. I was in the area of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill last week, driving in the car and flipping the radio dial, when I cam across a local sports radio show. At the time, they were discussing the recent top 25 release, and noted that the two top-ranked ACC teams were Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
I could tell from the tone of their voices that this did not make them happy. The distraught cries of “what happened?” were also a dead giveaway that these long time believers in the superiority of ACC basketball have had that illusions shattered by the way these two teams have come in from the Big East and roughed them up. It’s early in the conference season, and it might not hold up, but for right now, the Orange and the Panthers are proving which conference was truly the best.
