If today’s loss is any indications of future form, the USMNT may have some trouble qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
The United States men’s national team was defeated by Honduras today in the CONCACAF qualifying final-round opener for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil 2-1, and it was a pretty lackluster performance from the Stars and Stripes against an opponent that on paper they were better than.

The loss to Honduras isn’t necessarily catastrophic for the US hopes of advancing to the World Cup, but it does cut into the margin for error pretty significantly. It makes the next game against Costa Rica a must-win ahead of a match-up at Mexico, and more importantly, the loss also put some of the US team’s weaknesses on full display.
